Abuja, Nigeria
Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country, with a population of over 230 million people. Renowned for its rich cultural heritage, abundant natural resources, and entrepreneurial spirit, Nigeria is a federal republic comprising 36 states, with Abuja as its capital. Abuja is known for its central location, modern infrastructure, and welcoming people. As the hub of Nigeria’s political and diplomatic life, the city is surrounded by scenic hills, cultural landmarks, vibrant markets, and locally crafted products that reflect the diversity of its people and heritage.

Climate and Geography
Abuja has a tropical savanna climate with two distinct seasons. The rainy season, generally from April to October, brings greener landscapes and moderate to heavy rainfall, while the dry season, from November to March, is characterised by warmer, drier conditions and the distinctive harmattan period, when cool, dry winds bring crisp mornings and hazy skies. Daytime temperatures are often above 30°C, while evenings and nights can be more comfortable, particularly during the drier months. Abuja’s elevated position, at approximately 360 metres above sea level, contributes to variations in temperature and weather conditions across the year.
Culture and History
The indigenous peoples of the Abuja area include the Gbagyi (Gwari), Koro, Ganagana, and Gwandara. Today, Abuja is a vibrant melting pot of cultures, attracting people from across Nigeria and beyond. Landmarks such as the National Christian Centre, the National Mosque, and the many traditional festivals and cultural expressions found across the Federal Capital Territory reflect the richness and diversity of Nigeria’s people and heritage.
Places of Interest
Abuja offers a wide range of attractions and recreational destinations for residents and visitors. These include Aso Rock, the city’s iconic granite monolith and a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s political identity; Millennium Park, one of Abuja’s major green spaces and a popular destination for leisure and family outings; the National Stadium and Arts and Crafts Village, which bring together sport, culture, and artistry; and the National Children’s Park and Zoo, a popular destination for families. For business travellers, Abuja also offers a growing selection of hotels, conference centres, and international-standard facilities.
Economic and Corporate Relevance
Abuja is more than Nigeria’s political capital; it is also a growing economic and corporate hub. The city hosts government ministries and agencies, foreign embassies, financial institutions, development organisations, professional services firms, and multinational companies. Its wider economy is supported by sectors including construction, real estate, telecommunications, hospitality, services, and solid minerals in the surrounding region. With its strategic location, expanding infrastructure, and concentration of government and business institutions, Abuja provides important opportunities for investment, networking, entrepreneurship, and corporate growth.
Abuja and the GEM Marble Campus
Abuja and its surrounding region are richly endowed with mineral resources, including gold, iron ore, clay, tin, and marble—a stone valued for both its strength and beauty. This natural heritage inspired the name of the GEM Marble Campus in Abuja. By adopting this name, we honour not only the natural wealth of the Federal Capital Territory but also the symbolic strength and resilience that marble represents. Just as marble endures through time, the GEM Marble Campus is dedicated to building enduring knowledge, leadership, and practical skills for Nigeria and the wider world.
